Today we started a series called Beginner vs Pro, to show small differences between how beginners work with professionals in the music industry.

In this first edition, we are going to talk about time planning for the release of your music.

Beginner

In general, beginning artists and record labels tend to schedule the release of their music in the same week or even just a few days before the scheduled release date.

Some even want to release their music as quickly as possible, regardless of the date and time.

This is very negative for the distribution and promotion of the release.

Professional

Instead, professional artists and record labels schedule the release of their music weeks in advance, preferably 4 to 5 weeks before the release date.

This change is fundamental to the distribution process, since it allows:

  • Have the distributor verify in good time that everything is in order.
  • That the distributor and the artist's team can submit their music to the editorial teams of the streaming platforms.
  • That the artist's team can carry out a pre-save or pre-sale campaign for the launch.
  • Ensure the inclusion in algorithmic playlists of platforms, such as “Weekly News,” “Radio” and “Mixes” from Spotify.

Conclusion

So, now you know: if you want to work more professionally in the music industry, schedule your releases well in advance.
