Mexico's recorded music revenue grew by 13.3% in 2025, entering the top 10 global music markets according to the IFPI Global Music Report 2026. With Brazil at number 8, the region now has two markets among the top ten.

A significant portion of that growth isn't coming from the majors. It is being driven by independent labels and distributors that bring genres, scenes, and artists to platforms that otherwise wouldn't reach them.

That is the focus of MUSICMEX 2026, taking place from November 4th to 6th in Mexico City. Mark Meyer, CEO and founder of Random Sounds, is moderating the panel Independent Labels and Digital Distribution: Boosting Latin American Musical Diversity on Friday, November 6th. Mark will be in CDMX for all three days alongside Germán Lesme, co-founder and VP of Sales at Random Sounds.

What is MUSICMEX?

MUSICMEX is a music market that connects global industry professionals and artists with the Mexican market. The 2026 edition will be held from November 4th to 6th at Laguna (C. Dr. Lucio 181, Doctores, CDMX).

It was founded by Cynthia Flores, Malfi Dorantes, and Valeria Ramos, who have over a decade of experience in the Mexican music industry. The program combines networking, conferences, panels, and showcases for professionals, as well as workshops and masterclasses for emerging talent.

The panel moderated by Mark Meyer

The panel focuses on those who sustain a large part of independent Latin American music: labels and distributors. The conversation revolves around how their work expands the diversity of genres, scenes, and regions that reach streaming platforms.

Mark comes to moderation from daily operations: Random Sounds builds the infrastructure that labels and distributors in the region rely on. Catalog management, metadata, quality control, deliveries to DSPs, and royalties are all part of that conversation.

Musical diversity also depends on infrastructure

A diverse catalog only serves its purpose if every release is delivered correctly, is easy to find, and pays the right people. That work is largely done by independent labels and distributors who know their scenes and their artists.

The challenge is operational. Incomplete metadata, DSP rejections, unclear reports, or manual payments hold back regional catalogs before they ever reach their audience.

With Mexico and Brazil growing at double-digit rates, the difference between a label that scales and one that stalls often comes down to how it operates internally.

What Random Sounds does in this ecosystem

Random Sounds works on two fronts of the independent music industry, with teams in Asunción, Buenos Aires, and Montevideo.

  • Distribution for independent artists: releases to over 45 platforms, support from a human team, and access to Spotify for Artists as the first independent distributor in LATAM to be part of Spotify's Preferred Partner Program.
  • White Label for labels and distributors: the platform that allows labels and distributors to manage catalogs, royalties, DSP deliveries, and reporting under their own brand.

In both cases, the goal is the same: to ensure that independent music from the region circulates with professional standards and that the money reaches those who create it.
